Addressable Hardware & Software

Addressable software live training is geared towards those responsible for installing fire alarm systems. This class is suitable for customers using Potter's non-proprietary AFC series fire panels and Potter's IPA authorized ESDs. A basic knowledge of fire alarm systems with some exposure to addressable fire panel programming concepts is recommended. Attendees should bring a laptop computer with an Ethernet port for panel programming (Potter Panel Programming software is compatible with Windows 10 and newer). Ethernet cables will be provided for use in class.

The two-day course will cover the AFC & IPA fire alarm programming software, with the addressable hardware portion being an online self-paced prerequisite. Day 1 of the live class will focus on panel programming software, including common programming scenarios and Integrated Voice programming. Day 2 will be comprised of hands-on programming exercises for all atttendees. Training will take place from 8:30am to 4:30pm on both days. Upon completion attendee will have the tools to successfully install, program and start-up a Potter Addressable fire alarm system.

Class attendance is limited to 16 people.

Participants will receive:

  • 2 days of comprehensive instruction on the Potter AFC/IPA series fire alarm systems
  • Practical applications and programming instruction on live panels, detectors, and modules
  • Factory certification is provided after successful completion of hands-on panel programming exercises.
  • IPA authorized attendees will receive IPA specific factory certification.
  • Technical training booklet.
  • Lunch will be provided both days

IPA Advanced Classes

The following classes will cover advanced applications for the IPA series fire alarm panels and programming software. Upon completion attendee will have the tools to successfully install, program and start-up each defined course below. Class attendance is limited to 16 people. These classes will only be offered in St. Louis.

Must have attended the two-day addressable hardware & software training in order to participate.

Class Schedule

Day 3 Morning - Smoke Control

  • Covers the basic concepts and uses of smoke control for zoned or stairwell pressurization applications
  • Learn how to program smoke control through the programming software
  • Practical applications and programming instruction on live smoke control panels, detectors, and modules

Day 3 Afternoon - Peer-to-Peer

  • Covers the basic concepts and uses of peer-to-peer network systems
  • Learn how to set up the Panel and Network IDs on the FACPs
  • Learn how to program peer-to-peer systems through the programming software
  • Practical applications and programming instruction on live panels, detectors, and modules

Day 4 - PotterNet/IntelliView

  • Installing, licensing, and navigating each software application
  • Learn how to connect panels to each software application
  • Details on adding maps and placing devices in PotterNet
  • Information on the pricing structure for each software application

ERCES Training

ERCES Manufacturer Certification/GROL/NICET Level 1 and 2 Prep Course

In this 5-day, "all-in-one" ERCES training course, NICET level 1 and 2 prep, BDA Manufacturer Certification and General Radiotelephone Operator License will all be covered. This robust training will prepare you for installing and commissioning Emergency Responder Communication Enhancement Systems. By the end of the course, pending examination, you will have your GROL, BDA Manufacturer Certification and be prepared to complete your NICET level 1 and 2 exams.

Class attendance is limited to 20 people. A minimum of 10 attendees is required. If the minimum is not registered at least 2 weeks before the start of class, it will be canceled with no financial penalties accrued. Attendees will be notified via email if the class is canceled. Late cancellation (within 2 weeks of start date) may result in a cancelation fee of $1000. Failure to be present for the start of the class without prior arrangements being made with the instructor may result in forfeiture of registration fees.

Participants will receive:

  • A copy of the Complete ERCES Handbook, all ELKINS renown FCC Study Guides, and other classroom materials provided
  • Class Instruction by highly experienced/professional instructor with years of electronics experience
  • Examinations conducted by Official FCC Designated Examiner; additional instruction and re-exams if needed
  • FCC License processing; students receive Proof of Passing Certificates at class end
  • Lunch will be provided daily

Class Schedule

Days 1 and 2 - NICET IB-PSC for ERCES Prep Course

The first 2 days will be from 8:00am to 4:00pm and include performing Rough Installation Activities, Performing Finish and Trim Out Installation Activities, Defining the Project Scope, Evaluating RF Signal Strength and Quality and Performing Commissioning, Acceptance Tests and System Maintenance. This portion of the course will be instructed by Mike Brownson, one of the authors of the industry's most trusted resources, the Complete ERCES Handbook, published by Safer Buildings Coalition.

Day 3 - Manufacturer's Certification

Day 3 will run from 8:00am to 2:00pm and will focus on Manufacturer Certification for TowerIQ (a Potter Global Technologies Company) products. It will include Products offered by TowerIQ, BDA programming, ERCES wiring and design considerations and will be instructed by Adam Dutcher, TowerIQ's Technical Sales Manager for Public Safety.

Days 4 and 5 - GROL Training

Days 4 and 5 will be from 8:00am to 5:00pm and will be conducted by Elkins Training Company. By the end of these 2 days you will have the knowledge to pass your GROL exams for FCC elements 1, 3, and 8. Examinations for the GROL will be conducted by an official FCC designated examiner and, pending a passing grade, you will leave at the end of the week with a temporary General Radiotelephone Operator License in tow. Official copy to be sent via the FCC directly.

FCC Licensing for General Radiotelephone Operator License/BDA ERCES Radio Systems

The FCC licensing for General Radiotelephone Operator License/BDA ERCES live training is geared towards those responsible for installing, designing and implementing radio telephone systems.

The three day course will cover in depth the FCC elements 1, 3 and 8 delivered by Elkins Training Company, along with Potter's professional BDA ERCES Systems training. Examinations will be conducted by an official FCC designated examiner. Training will take place from 8:00am to 5:00pm each day. Upon completion each attendee will have the tools to successfully install, program and start-up a BDA ERCES system.

Class attendance is limited to 20 people. A minimum of 10 attendees is required. If the minimum is not registered at least 2 weeks before the start of class, it will be canceled. Attendees will be notified via email if the class is canceled. Late cancellation (within 2 weeks of start date) may result in a cancelation fee of $500.
