Fire Protection Challenges for Lithium-Ion Batteries

With the increasing role of lithium-ion batteries, this presentation will discuss the uses of lithium batteries including battery energy storage, micromobility, and datacenters. We will then discuss the fire protection challenges presented by this battery technology, fire protection strategies and associated codes available that are trying to address these lithium battery fire protection challenges.

Scott Golly is a Vice President and the Fire and Building Safety, Service Line Leader for Special Hazards for Jensen Hughes and works as a subject matter expert, mentor, instructor, project manager, and industry advocate. Mr. Golly has experience in designing fire alarm and emergency communication systems, water-based fire suppression, gaseous suppression systems, conducting performance-based assessments, and preparing code and life safety evaluations for new and existing buildings. Mr. Golly has been with Jensen Hughes for over 23 years and in the fire protection industry for 30 years. Mr. Golly has been, and continues to be, an active volunteer Fire Fighter for over 33 years with experience in Baltimore and Harford counties in Maryland.
