This presentation will provide an outline of the fire alarm and carbon monoxide requirements contained in the 2024 IBC. This will provide tips and tools to quickly identify the printed requirements, while considering the exceptions as well as options provided by each use group.

AFAA

Tim Knisely is the training manager for the Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA). AFAA is the not-for-profit trade association for the fire alarm industry. As training manager, Tim coordinates all training efforts by the association; this includes in-person, on-line and on-demand training programs that are offered throughout the year.

Prior to joining AFAA, Tim spent 23 years as an AHJ in Pennsylvania, where he supervised the plan review and inspection of life safety systems in new and existing buildings. He also managed the fire safety inspections of commercial and high-rise properties and the organization’s fire prevention programs. Tim has developed and presented training programs for state and national organizations for 25 years; with topics that include fire prevention, false alarm reduction, fire protection system plan review and inspection techniques.
